Louro Preto Timber Veneer

Louro Preto Timber Veneer – Louro Preto (Cordia spp. primarily C. gerascanthus and C. glabrata) is a decorative veneer cut from several Cordia species that grow in tropical parts of the Americas, including Brazil. The trees are medium‑sized hardwoods, usually around 15–20 metres tall with trunks up to about 1 metre across.
The heartwood is much darker than the pale sapwood and slowly gets richer in colour as it ages, which suits pieces meant to last a long time. Its colour runs from medium brown to deeper reddish‑brown, sometimes with a slight olive tone, and often shows darker streaks that can be almost black. This contrast creates eye‑catching veneer that works especially well for feature panels.
The grain can be straight but is often a bit uneven, with a fine to medium texture and a natural sheen that looks very good under clear finishes. Once finished, the surface is smooth and highlights the colour and figure of the wood.
Because it is a dense, durable hardwood with strong visual character, Louro Preto is well suited to quality furniture, cabinetry and detailed veneering where a more exotic look is wanted.
